Was talking with my neighbour this morning (who we give a lift into town each morning now), and she was talking about her son, who was diagnosed with ODD: Oppositional Defiance Disorder.
She said as soon as he heard the person diagnose him with that, he said, "No, that's not me."
We all had a good laugh. Thinking the person should have said, "I rest my case."
I had never heard of this condition before so I looked it up - here are the symptoms:
"In children with Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), there is an ongoing pattern of uncooperative, defiant, and hostile behavior toward authority figures. Symptoms of ODD may include:
* frequent temper tantrums
* excessive arguing with adults
* active defiance and refusal to comply with adult requests and rules
* deliberate attempts to annoy or upset people
* blaming others for his or her mistakes or misbehavior
* often being touchy or easily annoyed by others
* frequent anger and resentment
* mean and hateful talking when upset
* seeking revenge"
Such a description - fits a few people I can think of.
