Depression, Fear, Hope, Freedom...
« on: May 07, 2009, 08:08:59 PM »
~

Depression is fear with hope removed.

It arises as we discover that something we thought could be ours will never be ours. Unhappiness is when we worry about not having something, depression is when we realize we'll never have it, and freedom is when we realize that nothing is ours and nothing can be ours, so that, in effect, nothing isn't ours.

Our own lives are not our own, so what is?

The way to defeat rational depression is not to try at all costs to turn back from it or to cling to the illusion of meaning, but to plow right on through it and see what's on the other side. Rather than recoil from the horror of nothingness; plunge head long into it.  What's there to lose? But, of course, the point of depression isn't to conquer it.

What's the point of depression?

Same as the point of any other ride in the park. The point of the ride is the ride.

I think depression is something that is coming to surface that we need to face, and it comes to surface in its way in its own time, but the 'real depression' occurs when we FIGHT what its trying to cause us to face. When fought = depression. When faced - then we can face our fear of whatever its trying to show us about ourselves that we may not want to see, but our minds have decided for us we're ready to see. When we fight against it = depression. And some folks may end up laying in bed for weeks to months fighting the blues of depression when the wave comes along. The main trick is trying to figure out 'why' the wave is occuring.

I think in the states strangely we have higher rates of depression in other countries, unless of course we just keep more tabs on it. But it is pretty amazing that while we have 'more' than others, we have high rates of depression, and the number of people who are experiencing depression and other mental illnesses is climbing over the years, probably just do to pressure of the influences that we have to face.

I think you're right, Ellen. There are so many 'outside' factors produced, promoted, brainwashed into our psyche, that we actually believe we have to be this or that to be recognized as a 'real' person. And all of these influences provide the perfect masking for us. They solidify the 'labels' that we wear and contribute to the falseness of those labels.

Just some thoughts on a gorgeous sunny day here in the desert.  ;D

Yeah its gorgeous out here in this pseudo desert. Im technically still in a desert, but I dont consider it a real one after living in az for over thirty years. Ive said I will when I see a lizard, lol.

Sure, theres the joneses, if you dont have 'this or that' you're not good enough, and this is part of the reason our poor nation is in debt. Selling the masses they had to indebt themselves with mortgages they couldnt afford, cars they coulldnt afford, and credit card debt they couldt afford to be something they're NOT.
