Remembering to remember

Reading the words
Feelings come flooding back
Recollections from the past
Secret knowledge
She had told herself was forgotten
Pieces of a mystery
She thought unsolved
Keys to doors
Previously thought unopened
But as she reads her words
Words that came from her self
But also from the Great Spirit
She knows that she always knew
And that she was tricking herself to forget
So as not to be afraid
Often the fear threatens
But there is no reason to fear
And no time but the present
Though the past has come back to her
The only moment is now
And the songs
The ancient shamans sing
Speak softly to her soul
Bring tears from deep within
Washing away her fears
And cleansing her soul
Renewed
The ancient shamanic chanting,
Yo-way-uh-yah Yo-way-uh-uh
Speaks to an old soul
Of an ancient time and way
Rattles shake and drums sound out
Reassure
There is no reason to fear
The secrets are safe
And she is safe
And she remembers
She remembers

"When you were a wandering desire in the mist, I too was there, a wandering desire.  Then we sought one another, and out of our eagerness dreams were born.  And when you were a silent word upon life's quivering lips, I too was there, another silent word.  Then life uttered us and...-Kahlil Gibran
