Before my brother arrived, I was making a fast (unsuccessful) search for my bowls in some of the unpacked boxes. I found my 2-volume hardcover set of Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre, deftly illustrated by the woodgraver Fritz Eichenberg (http://www.victoriangothic.org/the-woodcuts-of-fritz-eichenberg/). I had brought them back from California on one of the many trips and then forgotten them.
Not only are the volumes a great memory from childhood, but it has been a treat to skim through them to see his illustrations. His Short Stories of Edgar Allen Poe are great too.
(The images are dark, like the Gothic tales themselves, yes.)
