Post by: Jahn on January 07, 2007, 08:33:17 PM
I saw a new bird yesterday at home where I feed them with seeds.

Beautiful! Your goldfinches there have more colors than ours do in the us! Such a treat to have them, eh?

I've always read the ones here like thistle, and I used to put it out.   They went for the sunflower seeds (and the mud) instead!

But guess what finally got them into the yard a few seasons ago. I have a plastic water-jug tied to a branch, over a makeshift birdbath. You prick holes in the bottom of the jug, and a tiny, light spray of water comes down from the jug to the bath!! They loved that spray, the seasons they came. (They don't come every season here.)

All the birds appreciate our pond that we built last year. The warm winter does it possible to see them having bathing parties, or at least chatt meetings around the pons even this time of the year. The blackbirds and the great tits (what a funny name?) are regulars.
