I once asked don Juan something quite similar. We were alone
in the desert --  nighttime, billions of stars. He laughed in a
friendly and genuine way. He said, "Sure, the universe is
benign. It may destroy you, but in the process it will teach you
something worth knowing."

I like that, it is a typical CC and Don Juan sequence.

Yes, quite the paradox. Its benign, but it will destroy you - the things don Juan says certainly make you think! :)

But he's right. The universe is what it is, a mess of order and chaos, so really it is benign but think what it can do, esp when chaos comes! :)
