Mad Dogs and Englishmen was a favourite album for me back in this days, and I still have it. He had such a genuine emotionality in his voice, but I especially liked the way he gave himself fully to the music and didn't bother what the watcher thought - thus you get sucked into the music with him.

I join the choir, but to be honest Joe Cocker was never any artist for my eyes and ears.
He did belong to the New generation of the -60's of course, but in his genre (of English Pub Rock and blues) I found kevin Coyne much more genuine. Though when Joe had the voice, Kevin had the songs.
Well, Kevin is gone too so they can have a party in heaven ...
