Title: The Voice of Silence
Post by: Jennifer- on July 24, 2006, 10:35:45 PM
The Voice of Silence

Clark Ashton Smith

Hath Sound alone a voice? Nay, 'tis not so:
Silence can speak unto the inner ear,
If it be finely tuned and keyed to hear--
A meaning-laden message, soft and low.

Silence hath secrets of the farther spheres,
And echoes caught from the Eternal Sounds
That, past all earthly and diurnal bounds,
Are symphonies unto Eternal Ears.

Alas! our baser senses but discern,
At moments rare, some faint and broken note--
Some few words from the Perfect Poem float
To us. Ah, would that we the whole might learn!
