Money for nothing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8Qvv3RdW-Q)
Now look at them yo-yo’s that’s the way you do it
You play the guitar on the MTV
That ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it
Money for nothin’ and chicks for free
Now that ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it
Lemme tell ya them guys ain’t dumb
Maybe get a blister on your little finger
Maybe get a blister on your thumb
We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchen deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these colour tv’s
See the little faggot with the earring and the makeup
Yeah buddy that’s his own hair
That little faggot got his own jet airplane
That little faggot he’s a millionaire
We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchens deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these colour tv’s
I shoulda learned to play the guitar
I shoulda learned to play them drums
Look at that mama, she got it stickin’ in the camera
Man we could have some fun
And he’s up there, what’s that? Hawaiian noises?
Bangin’ on the bongos like a chimpanzee
That ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it
Get your money for nothin’ get your chicks for free
We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchen deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these colour TV’s, Lord
Now that ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it
You play the guitar on the mtv
That ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it

Love that song.
Knopfler has a very unique style of playing as well. When you can recognize a guitarist's sounds from among the millions that are out there... I think it says something about the gift/talent... whatever.. that particular person was born with.. or worked for... don't really know how to express the thought...
Some styles can be copied... but the original players.... the creators of new... those guys move me... there is something more there, even when they style is copied and perhaps expanded on by those who come after.
I'd agree.
Here's a couple 'distinctive' guitar players ;D
http://youtube.com/watch?v=_ae2uidckqE - Layla - Mark Knopfler and Eric Clapton duet
http://youtube.com/watch?v=o8ipQl9pywg - Eric Clapton & Mark Knopfler - Wonderful Tonight
http://youtube.com/watch?v=EQ-JyAGUsys - Mark Knopfler & Eric Clapton - Sultan of Swing
Oh, and one last... http://youtube.com/watch?v=F44BcGjIbAA Sorry gang, but it just ain't Clapton without the long locks ;)

Well this is Layla for me.
It is said that he sings about Beatle Harrisons wife, perhaps they had an affair ... ? As he said in a interview, "George had it all".

.. and he wanted something of it. Early ego of Clapton - looking at the neighbour. And he had some problems with drugs (for a while) but he is still going strong as we say.
