Nice that you bring up his name, John Bauer is well known here because he was born and lived in Sweden, though he studied art in Germany and France some years. Born in 1882 and died together with his 3 year old son in a shipwreck that took 20 passengers life in 1918.

His trolls are classic motifs on postcards, a few imitations pop up now and then.

Woo, I really like these Jahn.  You know what they kind of remind me of? Books I read from when I was a kid by Mercer Mayer.  Especially "There's a Nightmare in my Closet."
