Title: Moomin books
Post by: Michael on August 29, 2006, 08:29:44 AM
Tove Jansson is the author of numerous little books on the Moomins. I really recommend them - Jahn may know of them as she is from that part of the world. They are children's books that aren't just for kids - they are absolutely delightful.

There is a Moomintroll Home Page (http://www.io.com/~fazia/Moomin.html) and an international fan club, though I think the books are out of print now.

She also draws great illustrations.

I can guarantee you'll fall in love with Moominpappa and a Moominmamma and all the other characters.

Yes The Moomin (Mumin) trolls are very known and famous in Sweden. They are written in Swedish but the author belonged to the Finnish Swedes and lived in Finland so the books originate from Finland.

Finnish Swedish is a variation of old swedish, like we talked here in the 18 th century. It has its special accents. The Moomins are very close to earth and natural magic. Beside Mumin pappa and Mumin mamma Little My is a well known character.

They have been keen on not commercialise the characters.

Little My reminds me of Lori
Niamh is a hemulin
Vicky a fillyjonk
And I sometimes think of myself as Snufkin

Great names, have no clue what they are myself. I think I could see Master M as a "snufkin" though, hehe!  ;D

Oh I see mine now!

Nah, I can't be a butterfly collector. I hate butterfly collections because you stick a pin through the butterfly to save them, and I'm mighty against that!

That was a good reminder - I had forgotten about the Hattifnatters!
Sure brings up some child memory.

Well Muminpappa likes the sea and storms - so that could be something alike ...?
