This dream would almost fit in the just-for-fun category, except that there was a mission afoot. And I might not share it at all, except that I found a picture online that shows it pretty closely.
I was flying with several owls in the night. One of the owls was carrying something very large, and we understood that we were about getting this 'something' safely to our destination. It was very serious business.
I was looking at the owls closely, admiring how surrealistically large they were, when it finally dawned on me that I was an owl along with them. The realization of this disrupted the plot.

Interesting! I've been an owl like this once too and I as well didn't realize it until I looked at my hands and found they were not hands at all, but wingtips!
I've done a few journeys with owls while doing my Gramma's basement work.

I'm sure it did disrupt the plot.
This is exactly what I was speaking of elsewhere re the process of absorption. At one moment we are looking at something, and the next we become that. What we perceive we absorb into our soul - our soul is infinitely malleable, and in an instant, it becomes the object of our perception.

It's such a charge to be standing outdoors, to have an owl fly right past you. Had that opportunity a few times in my travels. What is uncanny is how silently they fly, and yet, you can sense their power. You "sense" them before you see or hear them. They ride on gentle ripples.
When I look at these pictures, I'm struck with the roundedness of their wing spans. And I get a flash of being prey. Whoosh, you are caught, but you are enveloped at the same time, with an odd sense of being protected into death.
Ever felt an owl's feather? There is nothing softer.

I was reading somewhere that in some of the First Nation tribes, if one (an outsider, no doubt) comes to ceremony, and it is known that the person has "Owl Medicine", that that person will be asked to leave. In these tribes, owl medicine is not viewed favorably and its presence is interpreted as a bad omen, but I've got it worked out why that might be.
The healing medicine which comes with Owl is silent .. it happens unannounced, powerfully, stealthily, and no doubt in the eyes of some, sneakily. In other words, there's a lack of trust and good faith on the interpreter's/banisher's part.
I've been exploring this because it comes to my awareness that I might have it myself ... which is ironic, as much as I protest someone sneaking up on me. Hilarious that.
-
The other, more cliche aspect is that Owl is supposed to signify Death.

Penetrating the Darkness
Wisdom of the Owl
Owls are the holders of wisdom, capable of seeing the unseen. With keen eyesight they glance into the soul and are totems of truth.
For as long as humankind has recognized animals as teachers, wise men and women have recognized traits worthy of respect in both wild and domestic creatures. The cultural and spiritual significance of certain animals transcends geographical boundaries, unifying disparate peoples. Not so the majestic and mysterious owl, which has over many millennia served as the focal point of numerous contradictory beliefs. Though owls have been regarded with awe and fascination, they have also inadvertently served as agents of fear. Since owls are nocturnal, human-owl encounters tended to occur at night and likely when the bird was swooping silently down to earth to grapple with prey. Yet even as some shied away from the owl, calling it an agent of darkness, others recognized the depths of awareness in beautiful owl’s eyes.
In the classical Greek tradition, an owl could often be found perched on the shoulder of Athena, goddess of wisdom, while owls could ward off bad luck in Roman lore. It is in Native American mythos, however, that the owl attains its own unique identity. Owls are patient messengers, bringers of information and the holders of wisdom, and they are capable of seeing the unseen. With their keen eyesight, they can glance into the soul to discern meaning and motive, and they are totems of truth. Unlike our distant forebears, we may never encounter an owl in the wild, but we can nonetheless internalize the wisdom of the owl by attuning ourselves to its most venerable qualities. Fully integrating the medicine of the owl into spiritual existence is a matter of considering how we might open ourselves more fully to the wisdom that can be found in the larger universe.
Should you find your efforts blocked as you commune with the owl, remember that it was not always revered as an icon of wisdom. This denizen of the nighttime has overcome many prejudices in its long association with humankind. To reveal those hidden elements of the self that impact your life for better or for worse, you must often make your way through the darkest parts of your soul as if you yourself are the nocturnal hunter. There is indeed darkness both inside the self and outside the self, but like the owl you can transcend it by drawing nourishment from the insights you receive when you penetrate it.

We have had a family of owls living outside our window at night. One of them squawks, so although it looks big to us, it must be still a juvenile requesting food from mother. We have to close the window eventually, to get to sleep. We've tried to photograph them, but I don't know if they will turn out. They are living in an accidental ledges tucked away in a narrow vertical part of the building. We think they may be there in the day, hiding behind a big vertical pipe.

The Owl is recognized by Siberian Shamans as one of the great animal familiars, indeed Shamans with an owl spirit guide typically have powers of second sight and great sensitivity.
· The owl as power animal perceives truths that are veiled to many, thanks to its silent flight at night.
· An owl spirit guide is skilled in detecting untruths, thanks to its acute hearing which detects what others do not.
· The legendary intelligence of the owl is indeed a characteristic of the totem owl. A shaman with an owl spirit guide is an old soul with much wisdom thanks to this maturity.
· Thanks to its silent flight the owl power animal knows when to speak and when to keep its peace.
· The owl is a skilled hunter thanks to its great local knowledge. On a shamanic journey the owl spirit guide serves the Shaman with its detailed knowledge of the spiritual realm.
To the Siberian Shaman, the owl does indeed have many special qualities, though these are not to be feared as the owl is a noble and powerful spirit guide. Shamans fortunate enough to be blessed with an owl as power animal enjoy much wisdom and insight in their company on shamanic journeys.

I wish the wildlife film-makers would not add music to their videos. I for one relish the stillness and silence. Especially with an owl video. Nonetheless, this fellow got some nice shots of the Great Grey.

The maker adds:
This owl allowed me to approach within 1 meter. The other birds you hear are alarm calls from robins who dislike owls in their territory. Watch for a couple of dives on the owl by the robins. This owl stayed on this perch for another two hours after I finished photography.
