Title: Pow Wow
Post by: Ke-ke wan on March 15, 2010, 09:31:52 AM
I attended my first ever Pow Wow yesterday.  So amazing.   Definitely a heart opening experience.

I don't have footage yet from the actual one we attended,  but do have some clips from years passed and some of the same Nations at other Pow Wows.

I felt it not appropriate to take pics of my own during most of the ceremony,  though did take a couple during a time which the announcer said it would be okay.   Somehow it didn't feel right,  though.  So I didn't take many.

I wish I could have stayed there forever!

Yes!  I plan to.  Also I made some connections at this Pow Wow to Dreaming from two nights prior.   Will have to write more about that.

Here are two of the three photos I took at the Pow Wow.

I was also fortunate to find the medicine bag from my dream.

I pushed the door open slightly to see a large black haired (First Nations)  Indian man standing on the other side of it.  He had his hand out with something in it.

"These are for you"  He said.   I was temporarily confused and awed.   He then explained that these gifts were to repay my kindness as I had given to his family in time of need.

He opened his palm to drop into my hand many tiny gifts.  Several small feathers,  some adorned with gold thread as well as several small handmade leather medicine pouches,  each of them so small to hold perhaps on gemstone.

The medicine pouch actually had a small agate inside it!

And I also found a drum stick (Raven carving)  made by a man from BC who moved to Thunder Bay. It matches my Raven Drum perfectly!   I sent a thank you with his sister-in-law.

These are the Little Bear Singers, who were at the Pow Wow.

This is them on Sunday:

I love how they include the children in this!

In all,  I counted about 12 or 13 circles of Drummers and Singers.  I can only find video of a few of them,  though they were all amazing.  You can feel some of the power that they drum up even in these clips.

So much to see and do - the kind of thing that looks like it could go on for a whole week, there's so much!

Pretty medicine bag.

I'm trying to find some decent video of the dancers esp the grass dancers and the fancy dancers.  Not having much luck though.  I did however find another good clip of Shadowcreek Singers from Sunday.
