Black stork

Today we saw a black stork. It behaved very unusually as it flew low over fields and even landed not so far from the motorway. These birds are supposed to be very shy and hide deep in the woods.

White stork is a bird of this world and there used to be a belief that they brought babies to families. :) It is a very common bird all over the country and completely fearless of humans, machines, etc.

Black stork is said to be a bird from the world of dead people; the messenger of the other side.

The same day we saw it last spring (it was the very first time for us to see it), the aircraft with Polish president and 70-80 top leaders of the country crashed killing everyone on board. They were going to Belarus to the memorial event dedicated to 20,000 Polish officers executed by Soviets during the WWII (in place called Katyn).

Seeing that bird today felt like an extremely clear message.
Today's news: very unusal and destructive tornado in Japan...and the day is not over yet.

He may be a death omen, but he sure is very impressive and stunning-looking.

Death and/or its messengers are not necessarily ugly. They may be very elegant and enticing.

There's a creek nearby here, where Elspeth saw black swans, several times. I went there once, didn't see any swans.
