Book O'Mancy
« on: July 16, 2009, 02:34:46 AM »
On another site, our Elliott put up an intriguing activity, which I tweaked a little here:

Grab the book nearest you. Right now.
* Turn to page 67.
* Find the sixth sentence. (Sentence, not line.)
* Post that sentence, along with these instructions.
* Don't dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST book...

Messages, eh?

Everyone executes their little lives, nothing is lost by the cries and the sadness, water stays pure with the floating of weeds, passing on by, passing on by.....

Another version I've heard of folks doing this is to grab with one's eyes closed any book, blindly open it randomly, and shoot one's finger onto the page. Presto, message.   :)

Oh yeah,  this is a fave around Facebook .

let's see what I get:

If we allow our Chi to rise again like a stream of water building up behind a dam,  it will, after time,  flow naturally over the obstacles in our lives..

Funny that. My bookmark is on page 65. Hella close.

This is generally what I do. But, I like to have a question formed in my mind, go to the book shelf with my eyes closed, point my hand at the shelf, moving my hand around slowly until it feels right to stop, then grab the book in front of my hand, look at it while it's closed, and open it to where it feels right to open it, much the same as how I decide where to split a tarot deck before shuffling.

And what every I open to will most likely relate to what I'm asking. I might then repeat with follow up questions.

I find it more fun useful to be in the library, where I can go from book to book, choosing which section first by what feels right, write down each key passage I find that feels like the answer or part or an answer.
