PINK FLOYD LYRICS

"Shine On You Crazy Diamond (I-V)"

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

yes, that's made that song go round my head all day - and he only died about a week ago.

How odd... I did not know anyone died connected to it.  It creeped into my head too.

I guess.. I had better read up on some news..

i don't know how much you know about Pink Floyd, but that song was written for Syd Barrett who died on the 7th july. he died from cancer, but he was the original inspirational member of the band who one day went too far with drugs, and turned up vacant - a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky - lost his soul.

he split and did a few solo albums that weren't too bad actually, but never regained his soul, and lived a recluse. Strangly he turned up at the recording of that song, completly out of the blue, sat at the back of the studio, unrecognised by the others, he had changed so much, tho they did eventually twig, nothing came of it.

in his hey day he was a highly loved and chrismatic personality. david gilmore took his place and sang his songs, and played a good guitar, but was not Syd - the early music when he was around had a special quality. (personally i really like roger waters - set the controls for the heart of the sun, careful with that axe eugene)

I actually honored Syd by publish this song on the TNF some days after he passed away. It is a great album from 1975 (I wish you were here) and the whole album was dedicated to Syd.

i remember that one got a post card together with the album with a photo from the sleeve.
