The Spirits of Nature can call to you, drawing your attention.  When a stone, a piece of distinctive driftwood on the ocean beach, a feather in the grass, an egg dropped from a nest calls to you ~ STOP! Slow down and pay attention.  Connect with the spirit that is calling to you.  Ask the spirit of the stone for example, if it is to come back with you, to be used in your shamanic practice OR are you to connect with it there, learning something about a lesson that is up for you.   If you are called to take it home with you then gift before taking it from its home. (Tobacco, cornmeal, herb, plant a crystal, sprinkle bird seed, hair from your head, offer a prayer, etc.)  It is also appropriate to gift before or after working with a spirits in nature with gratitude, staying in spiritual balance.  When working with the stone people, be mindful and someday return them to their home, where you found them.

just a point of warning on this 'taking home' thing. of course we all do it, or did it. and as she says here - if you are called to take it home. that's the way, but it's not always quite so simple - we are attracted to objects of power.

anyway, i just want to say two things:
1. Don't take highly powered objects home - these have an aura about them which indicates they were used by people in the past. for god's sake, leave these alone - just look and move on. I am speaking from experience.

2. Don't take home every nifty looking thing you see - it's alright to leave things where they lie. if you are not careful you can find your home surrounded by energetic clutter.

Having said that, for shamans, there are special objects we come across that we bring to our house for specific purposes. I'd like to go into this, so it's good to be reminded... but i'll just have to get back when time permits.

My friend was called to help. One woman was given a very old shaman's drum as a gift. She took it home. Soon it started to make noise at night. More and more powerfully. Then objects started to fly. Then they tried to hit her. She couldn't stay at home any more.

She called for help. My firend went there (powerful sorcerer he is). He managed to establish silence in the room for a while. Then he discovered that that drum was used in times immemorial for soul-catching. There were souls imprisoned in it!

It took gigantic effort to undo the mess and let the souls go.

Michael, in a case such as discribed above.. could the woman of saved herself the whole experience by doing a cleansing of the drum before accepting it into her life?

I'm a Devil's advocate with no personal experience here, but do you really think it is that easy to undo sorcery of that level? Sorcery at the level of 'ancient seers'?

Michael, in a case such as discribed above.. could the woman of saved herself the whole experience by doing a cleansing of the drum before accepting it into her life?

yes, by slashing the skin - that's what all such shamans should do with their drums before they go. But like e says - it's not worth the risk. you can tell if a drum has that type of energy - i had one myself once, and got rid of it by giving it to the music school at the local uni - didn't really want to slash a huge lizard skin.

In that particular case a whole ritual was developed for burning the drum and letting the trapped ones go.
