The Poems of Ancient Tamil
« on: October 16, 2007, 08:02:45 PM »
My beloved has cunning that knows two things
In the middle of the night
she comes
as fragrant as Mullur flower
in the land of Malaiyan
whose sword is red, whose strength is inimical,
and she is fit for me.
Then she shakes out the mixed flowers
I put in her hair,
rubs sandal and oil in her tresses,
and with a new face
she is fit for her family when day comes.

(the heroine's friend says to the hero...)

Near the town there is a pond.
And not far from the pond is a small forest river.
Except for a little white heron searching for prey
nothing comes near the grove there.
We will go to that place
taking clay for our hair,
and she also will come,
the innocent girl.

....

A crane appears motionless on a lotus leaf like an oyster in a vessel of pure emerald.

The maiden left,
with face upon her turning neck like lotus on bending stem.
The glance she cast from curling lashes,
ambrosia mixed with poison,
cut deep within my heart.

i love their simplicity
and yet with a little twist each time, that catches one unawares.

I like these, they are like dreams.
"The compulsion to possess and hold on to things is not unique. Everyone who wants to follow the warrior's path has to rid himself of this fixation in order not to focus our dreaming body on the weak face of the second attention." - The Eagle's Gift
