Fritz Eichenberg

Before my brother arrived, I was making a fast (unsuccessful) search for my bowls in some of the unpacked boxes. I found my 2-volume hardcover set of Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre, deftly illustrated by the woodgraver Fritz Eichenberg. I had brought them back from California on one of the many trips and then forgotten them.

Not only are the volumes a great memory from childhood, but it has been a treat to skim through them to see his illustrations. His Short Stories of Edgar Allen Poe are great too.
(The images are dark, like the Gothic tales themselves, yes.)

Wuthering Heights cover.
