Michael's list
« on: April 28, 2008, 02:25:33 AM »
As it's all the go now, I'll start my own list:

I really have to begin with the most famous singer possibly of all time:
oum kalsoum

oum kalsoum

let me keep to the same area but come forward in time, some of my favourite singer, Natacha - her latest album is Julie and my very favourite, and it's not on YouTube:

Natacha Atlas -Amulet

Natacha Atlas - Mon Amie La Rose

Natacha Atlas - Mistaneek

going quieter - the album she did with Marc, which I don't have and would love to get, is actually for Gurdjieff - I do have this song though:
Natacha Atlas Marc Eagleton

something for the soul, lets go very still:
Jivan Gasparyan

moving up gently - the most favourite singer of folk and sacred in India:
Jagjit Singh

moving right along:
Hear My Train A Comin'
Hear My Train A Comin'

and of course, into the sea:
First We Take Manhattan

and for all those who seek to trespass outside the walls:
The Stranger Song

did you ever go clear

LC and Bono

Oh well, while we at it - some young ones may not know about this stuff:
set the controls for the heart

and what would my list be without:
wild thing

Hey - everybody has a Jukebox to be played eeh?

You picked one of my favorites - so here is the lyrics

Leonard Cohen - First we take Manhattan

They sentenced me to twenty years of boredom
For trying to change the system from within
I'm coming now, I'm coming to reward them
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I'm guided by a signal in the heavens
I'm guided by this birthmark on my skin
I'm guided by the beauty of our weapons
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I'd really like to live beside you, baby
I love your body and your spirit and your clothes
But you see that line there moving through the station?
I told you, I told you, told you, I was one of those

Ah you loved me as a loser, but now you're worried that I just might win
You know the way to stop me, but you don't have the discipline
How many nights I prayed for this, to let my work begin
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I don't like your fashion business mister
And I don't like these drugs that keep you thin
I don't like what happened to my sister
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I'd really like to live beside you, baby ...

And I thank you for those items that you sent me
The monkey and the plywood violin
I practiced every night, now I'm ready
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I am guided

Ah remember me, I used to live for music .... baby
Remember me, I brought your groceries in  .... ooh baby yeah
Well it's Father's Day and everybody's wounded
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin
