Health

Trance has been shown to be very psychologically beneficial, by helping to relieve built up stress, allowing one to reflect on life issues without censorship or guilt, and generally giving the psyche respite from operating at alpha or delta states. Trance forms though such as meditation may be contraindicated for certain individuals with a history of mental illness and people on certain psychotropic medications, for example. There have been studies published in defensible journal of peers (provide source) that grace and thanksgiving (for example) vocalised, enacted, thought and felt prior to consumption of meals may assist with digestion and nutrient uptake and utilization by the bodymind (refer Agape feast, eucharist, ganachakra, etc.) Generally, one is only in a theta state for a period of minutes, right before going to sleep, and when waking up. Being in a theta state for 15 minutes is considered to be an 'extended period'. With the use of auditory driving, or other meditative techniques, this time can be extended significantly.

Id love to hear of further experiences if you should try it out ;)

Ive found myself in all sorts of places and sometimes its as if Im someone or something else all together..

Thing is.. Im aware of both worlds during this.. for a good amount of the time this stays.. and then often I move further and cant recall anything but.

I actually had quite a 'moment' today as well.  I was standing at the cash register handing somebody their change and was suddenly aware that I wasn't actually 'me'.  I heard my voice as if it was someone else's, felt as if I was performing these actions, somewhat but also felt as if I was standing above and   behind this person watching and listening.  I felt a disconnection from my body yet  a connection with everything else at the same time.
(hard to verbalize)

PS
I can also access this state by  staring at something for a little while.  First the vision goes, then the shift.

I recently found all the tapes I had recorded from the Ethno-musicology library at our Uni many years ago, of recordings of trance music from all over the world. One of my (many) projects is to convert these to digital and upload them here for those who are into such stuff.

What really fascinated me was the difference between 'trance' music and non-trance music. I can't say I could clearly explain, but it is quite noticeable.

:) Do you dance Lori Ann, or trance in other ways?

Do any of you?

The Sangoma's here in South Africa are very into this kind of 'dance trance' - it is an integral part of any celebration. In years past, I would often join in when I had the opportunity to do so. It is quite an experience!

I have also used the form of 'trance dance' to music when I was working with the emotional body (on my own or in group) I found it rather liberating.

Other than that, I am not much of a dancer   ;)
