I can tell you this, about Marianne. She was a Swedish girl, and it was together with the Swedish authour Göran Tunström that Cohen got to know Marianne.

Leonard Cohen has commented Tunströms deacese in Swedish newspapers.

Tunström wrote a very interesting book about Jesus and Johannes (the baptist) - both becoming apprentices o the Essenés, a book that had a great impact on me around 1980.
The Letter from the Wilderness (Swedish: Ökenbrevet, novel, 1978).
I shall check if there is a English version of that book.

Tunström was raised in Sunne, Värmland.[1] He made his debut with the poetry collection Inringning in 1958.[1] In the late 1950s, he lived on the Greek island of Hydra and became friends with Leonard Cohen and the Norwegian author Axel Jensen.

Is the title of Tunströms "Ökenbrevet" = the letter from the desert.
But I find no translated excerpts ...
I do not even find the translated book.
