Life Is A Highway by Rascal Flatts with lyrics

singitsingitsingitsingit  --Just tell 'em we're survivors.

Life Is A Highway by Rascal Flatts -- the Pixar Video

The original by Tom Petty

(Stand corrected by lori: Tom Cochrane wrote it and did it first  -- Tom Petty is just the first version I heard.)

Life's like a road that you travel on
When there's one day here and the next day gone
Sometimes you bend, sometimes you stand
Sometimes you turn your back to the wind
There's a world outside ev'ry darkened door
Where blues won't haunt you anymore
Where brave are free and lovers soar
Come ride with me to the distant shore
We won't hesitate
To break down the garden gate
There's not much time left today

Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
If you're going my way
I wanna drive it all night long

Through all these cities and all these towns
It's in my blood and it's all around
I love you now like I loved you then
This is the road and these are the hands
From Mozambique to those Memphis nights
The Khyber Pass to Vancouver's lights

Knock me down get back up again
You're in my blood
I'm not a lonely man
There's no load I can't hold
Road so rough this I know
I'll be there when the light comes in
Just tell 'em we're survivors

Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
If you're going my way
I wanna drive it all night long

Gimme gimme gimme gimme yeah

Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
If you're going my way
I wanna drive it all night long

There was a distance between you and I (between you and I)
A misunderstanding once
But now we look it in the eye

There ain't no load that I can't hold
Road so rough this I know
I'll be there when the light comes in
Just tell 'em we're survivors

Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
If you're going my way
I wanna drive it all night long
Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
If you're going my way
I wanna drive it all night long
Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
If you're going my way
I wanna drive it all night long

You sure it wasn't Tom Cochrane that sang the original?
Only reason I know is because he's Canadian and he came to my hometown when this song was BIG!

I'm not sure.... There are 4 listed as having done it: Cochrane is one of them. He may have been the first. Tom Petty's version played in the US on the radio first -- or at least it was the first one I heard. Someone named Chris Ledouex also did it.
I'm partial to Rascal Flatt's version, though I don't usually go for country and western. The arrangement is the same as TP's.

Hmmm..  I have never heard the Tom Petty version, looking for it now.
If you follow the link you provided.. actually takes you to Tom Cochrane   who is the writer of it.   I know it has been redone a zillion times though so I'll keep looking.  I love Tom Petty!

 :(

Can't find a Tom Petty version.  Each time I think I've found it, takes me to the same old Tom Cochrane version.. I give up for now.

Aha! found it-- yes, it's Tom Cochrane's song. Thanx -- fun to have such trivia up the sleeve for when I get back to my roommate's, who is the trivia king.
TP and RFlatts had hits with it here.
I'm wondering if Rascal Flatts is related to the Flatts of "Flatts and Scruggs" now too. I saw Rascal singing live on some show--- he has a hell of a lot of presence -- it doesn't really come across in the video.

heheh-- the useless information we fill our minds with!

The link to the Tom Petty version is in the first post here --- click on "the original tom petty" .

I guess it shows you can't believe everything you see on the net. lol

I did find some info on the song, it's fairly old.....

"Life Is a Highway" is a song written by Tom Cochrane, from his 1991 album Mad Mad World. The song was Cochrane's most famous song, as it was a number one hit in his native Canada, and was ubiquitous on Canadian radio in 1991. The song also peaked at number six on the Billboard charts in the United States in 1992.

And on Tom Cochrane:

In the 1990s Cochrane took his family to West Africa where he helped to raise awareness and money for the World Vision famine relief organization. That experience shaped his next album Mad Mad World which contained "Life Is a Highway".

The song was Cochrane's only Top 40 hit in the United States, although he continued to have significant hits in Canada. Prominent Cincinnati disc jockey Brian Douglas was the first American DJ to play this song on air.

More on the Song:

In 1998, Chris LeDoux released a cover of "Life Is a Highway" on the album One Road Man. Changes include the timing of vocal entrances on the chorus, and location names between the first and second chorus. This version also appears on LeDoux's 20 Greatest Hits, released June, 1999.

The song was featured in the movie Cheaper by the Dozen (2003).

The song was featured in the movie Cars (2006), covered by the band Rascal Flatts.

The song was brought back into prominence when it was the first song performed at Live 8 Barrie July 2, 2005. In the same year, it was named the 13th greatest Canadian song of all time in the CBC Radio One series 50 Tracks: The Canadian Version.

The song was featured in a 2007 Volvo commercial. It was also covered by Blake Shelton and his choir on a live edition of NBC's Clash of the Choirs.
