I am the voice who fades away at birth
To whispers on the wind
To the joy of children
To the grace of elephants
To the whooshing rustles
Of tiny leaves spinning on a breeze.
You are deaf to me now,
But I wait and watch the hours
To turn your head
To twist your back
To stroke your neck
To grab your flailing arms
And right their clumsy reach.
You are numb to my touch,
But I gesture, and gesture
In front of you I dance
Like a madwoman in fits,
Naked-breasted, arched --
Dripping, to make a track
For you to find me.
You are blind to my light,
But I shine it on you,
When your eyes are open,
When sleep settles,
When twilight falls,
When your dreams at last
Bring you fumbling to me.
Even I do not understand
Why you do not recall
The contract that we made,
The one you buried like treasure --
Or why you can’t remember
That I am here, waiting.
I am the one you meet at death,
But you must know me now --
Your flesh will live.
Your life will move.
Your heart will fill.
Your throat will sing the world.
I am the voice who whispers in your dreams.
You sense it in the fog
And split the wavering lines.
One night, you are sure you hear it.
(At last!)

”Come to me, come to me, come to me, come to me---“

Story and Song

Hands waving at the sky
I stand in the warm sea of flesh
Passing the candle's tip of fire
I don't belong here, I know
But to these ports I go
With legs dangling behind
As I light to the next
I must remember this good
This good and this warmth
Hands clapping, feet tapping
Tambourines shaking
The rhythm of the best of us
As nothing else matters
But the vortex to the sky
And our voices of praise
Of love
Of circling
Of joining
This heart planet
This endless stumbling journey
Of story and song
I must remember this best
Fingertips to fingertips,
Sweat to sweat
"Dear Sirs, here is how
It happened, and how
It went up in blazes...
How I loved this world
Where I never belonged."

The River of Lethe

1982 -

The creaky attics vainly call
Down branches to the basement halls,
Do you think I to you will fall
Some morning? They think time is all,
Enclosed and huddled in recall,
Of dreams and starry chance's draw.

There is a time when whistles fade
And far-wrung wires wile away --
In night's lost stillness stripped of day,
The foghorn blows and smokestacks bay ---
While people in white houses sweep
Their vigilance to silent sleep.
A whispering clock ticks for its keep ...
The loving lie, and strangers seep
Into a blurry background's wall ---
To mingle there in stories' all ...

TA, E ... I was reminded of these in here this evening. They aren't my best, but they captured something... Felt to share.

Oneness

Enslaved to this wild, dusty dance,
I twirl and prance -- pretty, foothard --
For all these morbid, ghoulish guards
(So graceless in a graphic stance),
Where vinegrown walls wail to romance
And hopeless claw-beasts clamor, marred
By moonlight's fire, to muse me -- bard
Of doomed desire -- love's dark lance ...

We keen these stone-lust stumbled hours --
Lost to an empty winter's dream;
The waywards weep, and willows scream
For every mad waste crumbling towers
Unmoat around our siege: I plead
And writhe the grimmest woes this mire
Will soak or heed. The beasties bleed ...
Til morning blacks these melted pyres ---

The daily dire's cream ---
Astep we blur blazed beams...

That's a very imagery packed experience V.
A highly condensed explosive feeling.
