A 'bunch'? You Americans love that word. Over here in Australia we like the word 'mob'.
Shifts small and large - both have their place. Small shifts are the primary technique, because steady movement is more reliable and balanced as a long term strategy. But large shifts do have an important place, because they break the encrusted fixation of the AP. Usually these large shifts are important at the beginning of the path, and in fact, often cause people to discover the path itself.
But then it does depend on the natural volatility of the person. I was always a very solid type. Not a solid AP, but just a solid psychology. So although I was always open to different view points, I had to deliver outrageously heavy blows to my AP before I got it to begin the steady approach. I was just very robust, which was good once I found the path, but so resilient to blows on my AP that it was as if nothing could get through. Once I delivered a massive and final blow, all of a sudden I saw things around me that my perception had been closed to. Simple things like the emotional life of people I knew around me - I'd never realised the inner state of other people before. But also I discovered energy flow patterns in the landscape which I had never seen before. It just open up to me in a single moment, and I saw the landscape in a totally different way. That could only happen once I had arranged a large AP shift for myself.
I still find it necessary to arrange for a mix of small and medium shifts.
