Recapitulation

Recapitulation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recapitulation_(Castaneda) is a tough part of the warrior path. It is about taking down an inventory of events, esp the ones most meaningful, and then reliving the events.

This has been a tough one for me because some events in my life I have wanted to avoid. I pretty much work it, when things come up in dreaming, related to my past then I recapitulate those events, and burn through all the emotions pertaining to them.

I don't think it is necessary to write down every single person you have ever encountered and relive, every single emotion. I may differ with some toltec cohorts, but I really feel that drawing on the most significant, life changing events, is critcial and necessary. These events, have to do the most with our reactions, especially emotive, and can also rule our lives as fate in many ways. We do not want to be bound to a life of fate, so it is important to recapitulate. But I think most significant events which really molded and shaped us are the most important.

Childhood and parents is really important, because our parents have such a hand at molding and shaping who we are. It is important to extract what is good they taught us, but then take their bad habits which we adopted, and overcome the various things they did which may have molded and shaped us in various ways. various addictive behaviors they may have had, or other dysfunctions, really can shape us into who we are. To become free, we must truly relive out certain events we had with them, and recapitualte those events so they do not rule us, and especially our emotions.

Lovers as well can mold and shape us, and they have both good and bad things in how they do this. Reliving these emotions, especially the bad, is important so we can break the bondage they put us in. I know it is not easy, especially when we have pressing memories. But Castaneda has a valid point, when we relive the emotions assotiated with these things, we can break free of them,

If you wish to take a personal inventory of every event, that is fine. However I believe mainly the 'meaningful' events are the most important. And pay attention to dreams and which ones stand out the most, repeating themselves over and over. These dreams are the most critical, and you will find, when you recapitulate the event associated with the real life events which ensued, the dreams will stop haunting, over and over.
