From my friend Vic Paul, who has studied song-writing commercially. Won an award somewhere along the line, fwiw. (He approaches his own song-writing commercially.)
Anyway, tis a fun list.

Thank you, a very nice collection there!
I haven't heard them all, but the ones that I know is right on spot.
Dire Straits - Money for Nothing - has a classic intro, Stones Brown Sugar too.
Claptons Layla of course - and then Cream - looks like a later re-union.
You know old albums of Cream is doing very well on E-bay - I even sold a cut out of their live album for more than USD 20.

Think that's because Jack Bruce recently passed?

No, I would not think so,
it is simply because Cream has their status as one of the most progressive bands ever. You know - release a LP with only four tracks, that was something New. Cream are simply History!
Other LP:s and Music that goes well on E-bay is Reggae, Hard rock as Black S:th, Judas Priest etc.
Doors is Ok, but not especially hot.

Yes, the collection is pleasant, but as far as Intros go, being a guitarist, I can never forget Hey Joe by Hendrix - I still don't know the notes he played in that, but it remains perhaps the most arresting Intro I've heard, and Vic doesn't even include that one. Mind you, there are so many - how would one choose...
-
Right, there are so many.
These are a few we added:
"For The Love of Money" by The O'Jays
"Fast Car" by Tracey Chapman
"We Gotta Get Out of this Place" by The Animals.
"I'll Be Around" by The Spinners.
"Don't Take Me Alive" and "Peg" by Steely Dan. Also "Domino" by Van Morrison.
"All Along the Watchtower" by Hendrix.
"Hypnotized" by Fleetwood Mac.

This is lip-synched, but interesting. (Funny how odd Hendrix's hand looks on that fretboard.)

And btw, didn't the guy overlooked Roxy Music!
This intro is a plunge and rush right into ... something.

This live version (2001) is very true to their original track, the intro track on their first album 20 years before.
The only guy that is missing is of course Eno, but as a civilized gesture they got a woman that treat the Moog almost as Eno would have done. All credit to Bryan Ferry, Phil Manzanera and Andy Mackay that they finally let the synth by Eno in, it had such a original sound for them, like a space rocket diving into the future ...

Yes, the list can go on, but the concept is excellent - a sequence of famous clips with focus on their intros. tell Vic he's done a great job, and I like the technical comments.

Oh, here's another.

Talking but Intro's this must be on top ten in the old list that belongs to our generation. Was it mentioned?
The list in your first post do not show.
Led Zeppelin (Live) 1973
And watching the video the "real song" starts after about five minutes - so here we got a five minutes Intro. ENJOY!

Hmmm, most of them were in top ten, but not all (like Muddy Waters, for example.) And yes, Vic is our generation - maybe a year older than Michael. Vic didn't address the "Top Ten" per se in his post on FB, but his influences in songwriting come from commercial standards. There are certain formulaic markers in pop songs -- a catchy beginning, a repeatable chorus, a bridge, and lyrical-but-not-obscure words, for example.
The song he chose from Van Morrison I don't remember at all, so he must have strayed off the "Top Ten" list. He's a musician, still active, but his recent interests have moved into old bluegrass. He recently put out 2, with this woman from Vermont: one a Christmas album, and one a tribute cd to the "Carter Family". Not my personal cuppa, just illustrating that he still does time in recording studios.
I always laugh at this one.

Oh dear - I had forgotten how much I was into UH in my youth. This track brings me back to far-out spaced experiences that I had forgotten in a way. I can almost smell the rooms I was in during these experiences.

Yes how we tend to forget.
I saw a newsletter from my department from 1992, we had a new location and the staff was presented in that. I had forgotten one person out of 12, and got surprised - did he work with us?
