Title: Four Ravens
Post by: tangerine dream on August 26, 2008, 05:53:26 AM
Four ravens came to see me today at work.
 ;D

One or two of them have been stopping by quite often since I started working there, but today I had the pleasure of all four of them.   Even the big Daddy I am so fond of.  I listened to them for quite some time, they were just up on a Power station on the Other side of the road.  I found it hard to concentrate on my work, they are so amazing.   Luckily we had almost no customers the entire time they were with me.

I did get one customer and had to go inside the store to deal with her.  When I came back out, I couldn't see the Ravens anywhere so was nearly dissappointed.  I began to say to myself "Where did they go?"  When just above me the big one swooped down and then flew off to my right.  I love the way they sing!

Ravens woke me up this morning, some flying over head and one, by the sounds of it, on my rooftop.  They do that occasionally.   This morning, I heard their far off gargle-caws as they were flying and singing, but also I heard something strange.  The raven on my rooftop appeared to be laughing.  Now, if you've never heard a raven laugh, which I hadn't until this morning, imagine what an old man, slightly tired, maybe just waking up,  perhaps a long time smoker, with a pipe in his mouth and a  mouthfull of water.   Now this man is gargling, and laughing all at the same time and ends his laugh with a deep throaty caw.  That's what the laughing raven sounded like.  What a great way to wake up!

Four ravens visited me again at work yesterday this time at much closer range.

They arrived one by one and carefully placed themselves each on one telephone pole surrounding the store.  I was in the middle and they looked to have been stationed at the Directions.

hmm...

(difficult to concentrate on work)

they can make an extraordinary range of sounds. We have one at a place where I work, who makes this incredible ratchet sound - never heard anything like it. But i always love the way they finish off - often they just let the sound die in a throaty groan.

Yeah!

We have a ratchetty one, too.  When he was a baby last year, I called him the Kazoota raven because his voice sounded like he swallowed a kazoo.  :P   He's grown up a bit now and his voice has gotten a bit deeper, but still he's ratchety.  You can hear him coming from a mile away!

I have some talk from the Raven in a MP3 file that are quite large, perhaps I shall load them on YouTube for everyone interested? The Blue Raven spoke of the world to come ... and that was in 2003.

I would love to hear!  I was actually thinking that tomorrow I will attempt to capture their voices as they will come almost every morning now.

I got stuck in the upload to YouTube. I only got these recordings as audio MP3-files, no true video upload is possible but I figure out something.  :)

Well, Jamir

I haven't been able to capture 'my' ravens' voices yet, on tape.  But I did have an odd thing happen in dreaming this morning.

In the dream the raven flew over head and began his call.  As he was singing I remembered I had a container with me.  It was a tall black cylinder with a lid. I took the lid off the container and captured the raven's call inside my container.

As I was putting the call in the container I saw and felt the most magnificent sparkling dark red swirling energy around my navel/sacral chakra area,  but outside of me.  And I felt the raven song coming from this orb (ish) of energy.   I felt the energy rise up especially to my chest.

I then took it with me and just as I was waking up I opened the lid and let the call out.

At this point, waking and dreaming kind of mixed together as there was a raven outside my window as well, singing the same song.

Good, very good - you belong to the Crow family too.
I shall put up a link to my files tomorrow  :) there are some good sounds of Ravens in them. And who told me that it was time to publish 5 year old recordings now? The Raven of course! We are lucky to have a couple of them around here, and some times they just hit the ear ... with some message.

Would you believe I just received one short sharp message from a Raven, flying over my house, he stopped just above my doorstep.   Luckily I had the front door oepn to hear him.

It was right around the time you posted your message.

Each day they come to see me now.  Seems they are getting closer and closer, lower.

The raven is sacred to St. Benedict. According to legend, St. Benedict had gone into isolation to fast. At the point of starvation, a raven  brought him food.  At St. Martin's College in Lacey, WA, is a beautiful Simon Kogan sculpture  of St. Benedict with a large raven on his shoulder.

My idea too, if there is food -why not eat? Raven philosophy can be tough for they who mortificate and those that are in excess in healthy living.

Each one on their own though.  :)

Yesterday, I was taking some pictures of beautiful fall scenery, from out my bedroom window.
And just as I peeked my cam out the window, three ravens landed on the stoop of the Apartment buidling across the way.

I found myself thinking about Zamurito`s post at RS, in which he said that he had never taken pics of his crow friends and never felt like doing so.  I agreed with him.  Saying that it seemed like it wasn`t the `right`thing to do.

As I watched the ravens appear just as I got my camera out, I thought perhaps I had been wrong.  Maybe they did want me to photograph them.   ???

So I zoomed my cam as much as it would go, pointed it at the ravens across the way and, sure enough I was going to get a picture of them.  No sooner did I press the button, before the shutter snapped, the ravens flew in front of me and right out of the picture.  It all happened so fast, that I ended up with a picture of the stoop, nothing more.

LOL Silly birds.

With such birds, if they live nearby and are not temporary guests, I suppose one has to make some kind of agreement with them of whether to take photos or not.

I am quite happy to have their company on occasion, do not need any pictures.

It's Monday.
And I went to work today wishing the weekend had been just a bit longer.   I like the job, it's a little demanding is all.  When I get home every day, I'm usually kind of pooped out.  So on the weekend I rushed around doing all sorts of stuff, had a lot of fun shopping but didn't get much of a break.

So I didn't have the best day today, at least so far, though there's much more of the day yet to come.

I broke a coffee pot.  I only got  a tiny burn, so I was mostly okay though there was coffee all over and I was feeling out of place and kinda bummed out in general.

One of the senior girls was a little bitchy to me as well and this kind of added to my mood.
So I left on my break, after having just cleaned up a weekends worth of garbage in the drive-thru area and, while I was relieved to be going home for a few, I suddenly felt even worse.

As I got outside some tears began to fall and I quickly rushed out of the parking lot before anyone could see.
I was lamenting my life, pitying myself feeling tired, overworked and underappreciated when suddenly out of nowhere...    two ravens appeared.   One flew around behind me and cawed a few times.  "It's okay' he said "It's okay"  And the other stood atop the telephone pole directly above me "We are here, we are here."

I said thank you and quickly did an awareness check "Where am I now?" What am I doing?"

As sad as I was feeling, tired and blue,  alone in this big city, big world, with nobody to share it with, so far from family and Friends, I really have to be thankful that I have such a special connection with these Ravens and with other creatures as well.

My life might not be usual, and the path is sometimes hard, but this is a Path I have been on my entire life, since before I knew how to talk.  This is the dream I have chosen for myself.  I chose it because it is the right one for me.

So I wouldn't change a thing.

If I could,  I wouldn't wish for anything else.

Jamir,

I saw the Raven today while I was outside at work, and said hello to him from you, as you suggested.

The strangest thing happened, first there was one Raven flying alone in the sky and then suddenly, as if from out of thin air, there were two!

I've been seeing Ravens a lot lately.  There is one That I've seen a couple of times, I know because he has some sort of "limp".  He swooped down next to me the other day as I was driving home and picked up something in the road.  Then I saw him a gain in the supermarket parking lot.  He always looks like he's drunk.

On Thanksgiving, I was on my way to pick up my nephew to go hiking and saw another Raven.  We went hiking ... me, my son and my nephew .... and on our way to drop off my nephew at his house, we saw two more had joined the one, in the same spot.  They are such beautiful creatures ... so huge and powerfully comforting close-up!

Today after work, I got home to find the Big Raven on my rooftop!  I didn't know he was there until he "Blaaaaaaaaarghed" at me.  Stunned and happy to see him I went around to the back of the house just in time to see him fly away.
He flew over to the apartment stoop he likes to perch on across the laneway.

I said hello and told him I love him.  Then he said thank you and dove/flew off.

He left me with an glorious gift, a kind of emotional release.

Okay I know I am probably nearly exceeding my post limit, heh I have a lot to say today but...

Something very exciting happened to me today!

I got to feed my Raven buddy this morning.

I was at work, at the window and he kept flying over me.  He was getting closer and closer.  So I had the perfect opportunity, while nobody was looking and no cars were in the parking lot, to throw him a few little treats.

He seemed happy.  He waddled over to where I had thrown the treats.  He was maybe 6 or 7 feet away from me.  What a magnificent creature.  And he was so cute today, with the winter cold, his belly feathers were a little icy.   He didn't seem to mind, though.  And after he was finished eating the presents I threw him, he fixed and fluffed his head feathers up.   It's funny,  Ravens are such sleek looking birds, but they can puff themselves up so they look almost fluffy.

Still, whether fluffy or sleek, they are beautiful birds.  I was very pleased to have had the opportunity to spend some time with him today.

Last night at work as I was getting ready to go home, the baker suggested I take the extra muffins home for the kids.  So I bagged them up and put them near the back door for me to take home when I left.

When I got home I realized that I had forgotten half of the muffins at work.... half a dozen or so.   Somebody else will probably take them home, I thought.

And then this morning, after I arrived at work,   I was at the window, my station for the time period and I could hear the big Raven cawing through the headset.   I was happy to hear him and looking forward to visiting with him during my shift.

As I was thinking about him, he came swooping in front of me, past the window low with soemthing in his mouth.   He flew away, to the North but then arrived back again a few moments later.  This time I watched him to see where he was going.  He was headed toward our garbage dumpster out back.

As he flew in front of me again I could see more clearly what he had in his mouth.

He was carrying an entire muffin!

He made a few more flight trips picking up muffin after muffin and carrying it back to his spot, before he eventually disappeared for the day.

I was happy to see him and happy also to learn that the raven was sharing my forgotten muffins.

I checked them and they're okay.

Funny, we both forgot food in different ways last night, lol
