This was in my FB newsfeed today...
http://www.youtube.com/v/tcXU7G6zhjU?version=3http://youtu.be/tcXU7G6zhjUI watched a 3-hour documentary on "Ocean Giants" a couple of weeks ago. Something very interesting they presented was that whales live a long time. The oldest known mammal on the planet is a 200-year old blue whale up in the Arctic. One of the consequences of their aging is that they remember long.... Many of the whales living today remember the massive hunting that was wreaked upon them. Some of them even bear old scars from it.
Same for the Sea of Cortez, where hunting was banned decades and decades ago. The whales in the Sea of Cortez were not always friendly - not until the 70's, long after the banning of hunting. But their attitudes towards humans transformed, and thus we see how close these folks were to this whale.
Astonishingly, though this documentary was written by 'scientists', the documentary attributed the friendliness to ... forgiveness (and grace).
Love that.
