Well, there are many of them: 1.33 billion on the territory of 9.6 million square kilometres, i.e. 130 per square kilometre.

I have always been amazed by their collectiveness. They stick together and have such a pull towards each other. Once I was in cafeteria - alone - got my coffee and went to a far table to drink it. In about 5 minutes two Chinese came and, of hundreds of seats in the hall, they had to sit right behind me. Amazing!

Chinese stick together. There is such a sense of security and warmth in it. It is the collective, it is 'we'. None is responsible for whatever they do, it is their 'we'. 'We' build the dams on Yellow River, 'we' convert 2% of their arable land into desert every year. Taking care of their relatives, grabbing wealth, relying on leaders to make their decisions.

Earthquake struck, and the words of police officer on TV are: 'Thanks to the Party, People's Army, people we have accomplished a small miracle of rescue here!'

What a sense of security in numbers there...
