I watched this movie on television a lot when I was a little girl. I chuckle looking back... My cousin and I would do this dance, to Rimsky-Korsakov, not having any idea of the real meaning of the dance. It was about the pretty veils and fabrics...

This is a very famous (and amazing) dance done by the Nicholas Brothers.

Imho,  hollywood-wise, very little can top the nicholas brothers, but I had found these earlier, so here they are.

Fred Astaire is someone I really took for granted until recently. He makes it all look so effortless...

Btw per that incredible dance by the Nicholas Brothers - as younger folks arent always into tap, even teen boys and so forth- when I showed them that they were blown away.

Some dances are so damn good they're timeless - no matter what generation views them. Thats cool.

I love when they jump on the piano -- and all in all, how their steps make another instrument in the orchestra.
It's all so mind-blowing.
They get up from those splits with such strength and grace.

Oh I know, when they're leaping down the stairs over each other? It looks like oh shit thats gotta hurt! But then they get down the stairs and get right back up to it - its amazing that they could do all that with ease and even have the endurance for all of it!

But its revealed on the Nicholas brothers' faces - they loved to dance with a passion! Their hearts were beating and booming to do it - and sincerely wanted to have others get up and do it too :)

It was their nature to dance - they were born to do it. What a gift.

There are similarities between the above scene and Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal". MJ very well may have been doing an homage to Fred, I don't know.

The following video takes that theory and runs with it. It opens with a scene from "Daddy Long Legs w/ Fred and Leslie Caron, and then features scenes from "The Band Wagon" with Fred and Cyd Charisse.
